Hello! I'm Jian Xin, a 23-year-old undergraduate from Singapore Institute of technology-University of Glasgow Computing Science. SIT Logo University of Glasgow Logo

I was born in a small town called Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Malaysia. I transferred schools twice because of my family situation, and then when I was 12, my family moved to Singapore and eventually got the citizenship. Most of my family are in Singapore, while my brother, who has a sucessful career as a teacher, remained in Malaysia.

During secondary school, I bought my first and very own gaming console, the Playstation 4, using my hard-earned part-time salary. After that, I played games with it, and I was fascinated by the technologies used in games, particularly the programming part. I was amazed by how typing in a keyboard can make so many masterpieces. This sparked my interest in programming.

I chose chemical engineering for my diploma course, and long story short, I made a wrong choice. After interning and working in a chemical plant for some time, I realised that I did not enjoy the work, and I wanted to pursue something that I was more passionate about, computing. I chose to take a gap year and worked on my programming skills, I taught myself a few programming languages, concepts, and eventually got accepted by SIT-UoG for a degree in Computing Science.

My dream now is to become an independent and knowledgeable software engineer. I am very grateful for the opportunity to study Computing Science, and I will work hard for it!

Student Research Assistant

Collaborating with research faculty to model vessel movements at sea using FlexSim simulation software.
Designing, testing, and refining simulation models to study maritime traffic patterns and vessel interactions.
Analyzing simulation results to identify bottlenecks and optimization opportunities in sea transportation systems.
Collecting, processing, and integrating data on maritime operations and environmental conditions.
Participating in regular project meetings and brainstorming sessions with the research team to ensure smooth progress.

Finance/Logistics Specialist

Developed and implemented supply chain strategies, and achieved 95% success rate in delivering ad-hoc items/services requested by the unit
Addressing and resolving any issues or disruptions in the supply chain, such as delays, shortages, or damaged goods, achieving 90% unit and supplier satisfaction rate
Control, oversee and disseminate tasks to subordinates when there is multiple ad-hoc tasks available, served as the middleman between officers and NSFs in communication needs of both parties

My Projects

POSGO

A point-of-sale system developed for efficient transaction management, targeted towards small businesses.

Developed using React Native and Expo.

Creating and managing multiple carts for different customers

GeoPointer

A Geo Guesser-like game created for the Google Photorealistic 3D Maps Challenge.
Written in HTML, CSS and JavaScript using the React framework.
Used multiple APIs from the Google Maps Platform such as Google Maps JavaScript API, Google Places API, Google Street View Static API, and Routes API to retrieve data.

My Hobbies

Gaming

Yeah, like every other boys, I like to play games. I play a wide variety of games, from FPS(Valorant), to RPG(Final Fantasy), to Soulslike(Elden Ring), to MOBA(League of Legends). On top is the game that I finished (the story) for the every first time, Final Fantasy XV.

Coding

My love for coding actually started with game, after I purchased my very own PS4, and played FFXV, I was amazed by how the game's mechanics work, and I wanted to join Square Enix to create another Final Fantasy! I like the feeling of creating impactful things by typing into my keyboard, it gives me a great sense of satisfaction.

Anime

In case the top page wasn't clear enough, yes, I do watch a lot of anime.

Basketball

When I was younger and more energetic, I played basketball for my school team, and used to play with my friends a few times a week. Now that I am old and needs a good crack for my back, I rarely play anymore, unless someone asks me to play. So you wanna play? :)
